Dive into The Deep to explore the weird and wonderful adaptations of its marine animals. This presentation looks at examples of interdependence and predation in a variety of habitats within the marine environment.

Science: AQA AS Unit 1 Investigating Science at Work 

Discover the science behind The Deep. This presentation covers the scientific work undertaken at The Deep, the roles and qualifications of our science staff and how ICT is used in the organisation. We also look at health and safety requirements, commercial constraints and the impact of The Deep on the local community.

Geography: Threats to the Marine Environment

Our marine environment has evolved over millions of years into a finely balanced ecosystem. Now it is threatened by the dominance of one terrestrial species - humans! In this presentation you can find out just how we affect the natural balance of the oceans and what we can do as individuals to contribute to marine conservation.

Education & Childcare:  Imaginative Learning at The Deep

This presentation looks at the planning, teaching and learning methods used in The Deep’s Foundation and Primary programme for schools. It includes a demonstration workshop for the Key Stage of your choice and is suitable for students on both child care and teacher training courses. We can adapt the presentation more closely to your needs if given the appropriate course information in advance.

Audio Tour

As an alternative to our Learning Centre sessions why not try our informative audio guides? The Young Person’s audio guide is suitable for 9-14 year olds & the normal adult tour can be used for older groups. Please note that these need to be pre-booked.

Leisure and Tourism: Edexcel GCSE unit 2 and BTEC Level 5 Unit 6 Marketing

Looking at how The Deep was launched in 2002 and has attracted over 3m visitors. We look at market research, SWOT analysis, market segmentation, promotional methods, marketing mix and highlight a recent specific campaign. A hard copy of the presentation is available to staff on the day together with sample copies of promotional literature.

Leisure and Tourism: Edexcel GCSE Unit 3 Customer Service

Using The Deep as an example we examine types of customers and their needs, good & bad customer service and how we communicate with customers. Our complaint handling procedure is discussed as is the importance of effective staff recruitment and selection procedures.

Travel & Tourism: Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HNC Visitor Attraction Management

The Deep is a regeneration project for Hull – a man made development. We look at how The Deep has revitalised Sammy’s Point, its visitor profile, its effect on the local economy and educational impact. We evaluate how we keep the product new and exciting and the use of marketing methods to attract between 400,000 and 500,000 visitors each year.

Business Studies: Suitable for Edexcel and AQA GCSE Year 10

Using The Deep as a case study we look at our aims and objectives, ownership, location choice and funding plus environmental constraints.  Marketing is discussed in detail including market research, SWOT analysis, the 4 P’s, market segmentation and promotional methods.  How does marketing identify and satisfy customer needs in a changing and competitive environment? We view marketing from the psychological and sociological perspectives and how this shapes customer behaviour. The management of people within a business is also covered including staff recruitment and selection procedures and organisation structure.

AQA Applied Business: Investigating Business

This presentation encompasses the key elements of marketing and customer care at The Deep along with its corporate aims & objectives, and the ethical and moral stance that this registered charity upholds. We also identify why The Deep was built, its location and its effect on the local and regional population.

The Deep also produces an education pack for upper secondary school teachers and pupils who are teaching/studying AS and A level Science. The unit studied is called 'Investigating science at work'. The pack is produced on CD only at a cost of £10 per disc.
