The Deep is an educational and environmental charity showcasing over 3,500 fish including sharks and rays. Every year over 30,000 primary and high school pupils visit The Deep for their school trips and enjoy a fantastic range of workshops in our purpose built learning centre.

2011 has seen the creation of some exciting new workshops. Created by our in-house teachers, these workshops help to raise awareness of the marine environment. All sessions are closely referenced to the National Curriculum, making The Deep a perfect venue for your school trip.

Workshops, presentations and hands-on activities are delivered to groups from pre-school pupils to post sixteen.

New sessions for Key Stage 2 include 'Getting the Message Across', which teaches pupils about how the divers at The Deep keep in touch through special hand signals and 'Planet Explorer; using the Magic Globe' which takes you on an interactive journey through the solar system.

Additions to the Key Stage 3 programme include 'Great White Mystery' which looks at whether we have sharks in our water, 'Underwater Art' allowing pupils to show their creative side and 'Volcanoes and Igneous Rocks' where you get the chance to look at how volcanic activity affects both land and water.

There are also fantastic new additions for Key Stage 4 including 'Fantastic Displays' where pupils get the chance to be an aquarist for the day and create their own tanks on a fixed budget

Sponsored by KC

The Learning Centre is sponsored by KC and provides first class facilities for workshops, presentations and hands-on activities for children and young people.

KC has provided new laptops for use in the Learning Centre to help young visitors gain IT skills and improve their learning experience.

KC's partnership with The Deep is just one of many community partnerships that have been developed as part of the 'KC in the Community' programme. This aims to support the people, projects and organisations making Hull and East Yorkshire a better place to live, work and visit.
