The Deep has been working to raise awareness of just how big some species of pet fish can grow to in a bid to educate customers on the most suitable species to buy.

Tragically every year, hundreds of pet fish are offered to aquariums having 'outgrown' their tank! In many cases for aquariums it is very difficult to rehome them. Most displays already have the right number of fish and there is a risk of disease and incompatibility with the resident fish.

The Big Fish Campaign was set up after research revealed that in a 4 month period, 11 public aquariums were asked to rehome 144 fish that had ‘outgrown’ their owners’ tanks. Led by The Deep and Dr Peter Burgess, we are working with the hobby fish trade to encourage the voluntary ban on 'Tankbuster' fish species being sold, to raise awareness of the 'Big Fish' problem and promote the importance of research before purchasing fish. Would these fit in your living room?
