Jump in and join us on our next Home Educators' Day on Monday 14 January 2019 and explore the wonders of the world's oceans. Let us familiarise you with a variety of aquatic animals, their relationships with each other and the effects of human encounters. 

Workshops are tailored to a variety of ages, giving everyone an opportunity to make the most of their day. Children are welcome to take part in more than one workshop if desired.


Big Blue Sea (age 3-5) 11.20amDive under the water to find out who lives in the Big Blue Sea. Can you help our marine friends to give our story a happy ending? This story and play session allows children to develop their imaginative language skills.
What's Under the Water? (age 5-7) 12.20pmUsing some weird and wonderful examples from around The Deep, children are inspired to create artwork using a range of media. Children are encouraged to explore the visual and tactile qualities of the marine environment and consider 2D and 3D shapes, textures, colours and patterns.
CSI Sharky (age 7-11) 11.20am FULLHelp us solve this mystery by discovering who's eating who. This exciting multi-activity workshop is based on food chains and predator-prey relationships. Children use microscopes and apply a variety of skills while working scientifically to predict and draw conclusions.
Why Keep the Coral (age 11-18) 12.20pm FULLWhat is happening to the world's coral reefs? Find out why we need to protect this valuable resource by exploring the idea of environmental management and sustainable development in the context of a coral reef environment.
Survive and Prosper (age 11-18) 1.20pm FULLThis fascinating presentation looks at some of the adaptations that helps species survive and prosper in aquatic environments. We concentrate on animals within five of the different habitats showcased at The Deep. This presentation links to work on evolution and the environment.


Places cost £6 per child (including one workshop). Additional workshops can be added for £3.

Each child (in separate workshops) must be accompanied by an adult. Adults cost £7.50 per adult for a single day visit or you can upgrade to The Deep's Day Plus Pass Scheme for the standard entry price of £13.50, allowing free return visits for 12 months. If any adult within the party has an existing Day Plus Pass, you are welcome to use this. 

Full payment is required at the time of booking.

Opening Times

  • Open daily from 10am until 6pm. We are closed on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day
  • Last admission is at 5pm, although we recommended you to arrive no later than 4pm
  • The Deep’s peak times are between 11am – 2pm, should you prefer a quieter environment please visit outside these times.
  • Car parking is available costing £3 for six hours. It can become full during school holidays. Alternative car parks can be found here

Safety Update

The Deep takes the safety and security of its staff and visitors seriously and continue to work with Counter Terrorism Police Officers to review security regimes on a regular basis. Whilst the details of such plans cannot be shared we have in place measures to respond to changes in the threat levels for international terrorism. In light of recent events the security within the building and external spaces has been reviewed.

For the safety and reassurance of visitors, The Deep reserves the right to carry out random bag searches at reception. To avoid delays, please avoid bringing large bags and rucksacks.
