Jump in and join us on our next Home Educators' Day on Monday 14 January 2019 and explore the wonders of the world's oceans. Let us familiarise you with a variety of aquatic animals, their relationships with each other and the effects of human encounters.
Workshops are tailored to a variety of ages, giving everyone an oppertunity to make the most of their day. Children are welcome to take part in more than one workshop if desired.
|Big Blue Sea (age 3-5)||10.20am & 11.20am||Dive under the water to find out who lives in the Big Blue Sea. Can you help our marine friends to give our story a happy ending? This story and play session allows children to develop their imaginative language skills.|
|What's Under the Water? (age 5-7)||10.20am & 12.20pm||Using some weird and wonderful examples from around The Deep, children are inspired to create artwork using a range of media. Children are encouraged to explore the visual and tactile qualities of the marine environment and consider 2D and 3D shapes, textures, colours and patterns.|
|CSI Sharky (age 7-11)||11.20am||Help us solve this mystery by discovering who's eating who. This exciting multi-activity workshop is based on food chains and predator-prey relationships. Children use microscopes and apply a variety of skills while working scientifically to predict and draw conclusions.|
|Why Keep the Coral (age 11-18)||12.20pm||What is happening to the world's coral reefs? Find out why we need to protect this valuable resource by exploring the idea of environmental management and sustainable development in the context of a coral reef environment.|
|Survive and Prosper (age 11-18)||1.20pm||This fascinating presentation looks at some of the adaptations that helps species survive and prosper in aquatic environments. We concentrate on animals within five of the different habitats showcased at The Deep. This presentation links to work on evolution and the environment.|
