THE DEEP prides itself on high standards and an ability to exceed expectations. Forthcoming revisions to the legislative component that underpins these expectations require a formalisation of process that exceeds that which the current husbandry departmental structure can accommodate. Two new roles of Senior Life Support Specialists will take The Deep forward in both quality and compliance where exhibition environmental control is concerned.

Job Summary

Reporting to The Deep’s Husbandry Management team, The Senior Life Support Specialist plays a key role in formalising and delivering The Deep’s Environmental Management Plan (EMP); ensuring that The Deep exceeds all environmental expectations described by the standards of Modern Zoo Practice 2022 across the site.

Highly competent in life support system management, trouble shooting and with a passion for modernisation, the role works within the husbandry team; ensuring that each exhibit within The Deep provides optimal environmental conditions for a wide variety of both aquatic and terrestrial species. LSS asset management, installation, water quality maintenance, lighting optimisation and record keeping are essential to this role, with the core driver of maximising animal welfare in closed aquarium systems.
