Hull’s famous Fish Trail is the focus of a new exhibition at the Pier Street pop up called The Critical Fish Trail.
55 artists, writers and poets have each created new works inspired by Gordon Young’s much loved fish trail. Each of the fish on the trail is the inspiration for new creative work, set alongside research into each of the species. Are they thriving, threatened or endangered?
The exhibition opens on Saturday 25th October and runs through until Sunday 2nd November. There is lots to see and plenty of activities to keep families busy during half term week. There are creative workshops, Yoga, walks and performances.
The project was initiated by Dr Jill Howitt from the Critical Fish magazine.
“I have always loved Gordon Young’s Fish Trail and wanted to revisit the project 33 years after is was opened in the context of the climate crisis and the potential for art to highlight vulnerable habitats and species. I am so grateful to all the artists and writers who have contributed such incredible work free of charge. I hope the exhibition will show everyone the wonders of the ocean and the importance of protecting sea life”
The Critical Fish Trail is sponsored by Hull City Council – City Arts Unit, Hull and East Riding Friends off the Earth and Hull Maritime and is supported by The Deep.
