PLEASE NOTE - All of our work experience placements for the 2017 calendar year are now full, however we are now taking expressions of interest for 2018.

We offer one week placements within term-time in the attraction and all year round with the Aquarists.  The Deep receives many enquiries from students regarding work experience and most placements are booked at least 6 months in advance.  Students may spend one week in one of the following areas:

This work placement is suitable for students in year 10 and over. During the placement students will spend time in the gift shop, reception, cafe, education department welcoming school groups, guiding within the exhibition, the offices and will have the opportunity to be shown behind-the-scenes of our husbandry department.

For students over 18, who have left school/college and are currently studying marine biology, veterinary science, animal management and similar. These students may be eligible to spend a week within our Aquarist department. All places for 2016 and 2017 are full, and we are now taking expressions of interest for 2018. Please email us for more information.

An annual risk assessment is carried out on behalf of schools by the Humber Education Business Partnership and they have ruled out a list of 'no go' activities within The Deep for all students aged 18 or under including working with the aquarists 'wet side’. We regret that individual risk assessments by individual schools and colleges is not allowed.

A generic student pack is available, covering many aspects of the running and management of The Deep including a small amount of financial information. There is a marketing strategy included in the pack, plus information about the animals and their husbandry. Unfortunately no further information is available outside the pack contents. If you would like a copy emailing to you please email us.

The Deep produces an education pack for upper secondary school teachers and pupils who are teaching/studying AS and A Level Science. The unit studied is called 'Investigating science at work'. A taught classroom session on this unit is available at The Deep including a visit to the exhibition and a behind-the-scenes tour of the plant room where the water treatment process is discussed. Please email us for more information.

Safety Update

The Deep takes the safety and security of its staff and visitors seriously and continue to work with Counter Terrorism Police Officers to review security regimes on a regular basis. Whilst the details of such plans cannot be shared we have in place measures to respond to changes in the threat levels for international terrorism. In light of recent events the security within the building and external spaces has been reviewed.

As per Government guidelines more information on how to play your part can be found on line.
