Forgive our singing but you can imagine our delight at the arrival of not one, but two baby zebra sharks! Two eggs hatched recently from our female Zebra shark in the Endless Ocean exhibit, which were being closely monitored in our breeding area until they were ready to hatch, when our team stepped in to give them some assistance.
To check for activity, the eggs are candled to see what position the little ones are in before breaking through the leathery case. They are now being looked after by our husbandry team.
This species is Endangered so it's very important that we consult with the studbook keeper to see how they can contribute to the European breeding programme. We will keep you updated on their progress!
