We were absolutely thrilled to have made it as a finalist at Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards, taking home Gold in the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism category, in a glittering awards ceremony on 25 November.
The audience were entertained by footballing legend Chris Kamara, fantastic performances from Leeds West Indian Carnival and energetic street dance from Scandalous in an award ceremony held at First Direct Arena, Leeds.
This category of the awards recognises The Deep’s provision of an accessible and memorable visitor experience for all. The Deep is pleased to be able to offer a fantastic Changing Places facility, complimenting a number of other tools and aids including audio and braille guides, social stories, access guide and mobility aids. The Deep offers a number of accessible events throughout the year including Quiet Day and Tranquil Tuesdays, catering to visitors who may prefer to visit in a more tranquil environment, when the lights are brighter and the audio is turned down.
The White Rose Awards is the largest tourism awards in the UK, finalists battled it out to win in 19 categories including a brand new award for Accessible and Inclusive Tourism, reflecting the direction in which the tourism industry is moving.
The event provides an opportunity for tourism attractions and businesses in Yorkshire to showcase what the county has to offer. Following this success, The Deep will now be entered into the Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2020.
