- Red Devil crab
Did you know?
Diet
It's an omnivore so can feed on both small insects and vegetation.
Fun fact
Red devil crabs keep their eggs tucked inside their bodies until they hatch giving the appearance of a live birth.
Habitat
The crabs come from the island of Java in Indonesia.
Red Devil crabs have bright-yellow eyes which contrast sharply with their orange abdomens. They live on land and as such are at threat from deforestation and habitat destruction. At only a few centimetres across, their small size helps them to squeeze in and around rock and debris. Unlike most crabs they don't need to spend much time in water. They can normally be found climbing around the forest floor looking for insects to eat.
