There are always lots of exciting events here at The Deep alongside daily talks, presentations and dive shows. Simply choose your month below to see what's on.

Daily highlights

Join us and enjoy an extensive programme of daily activities.

Dive show

This takes place at at 2pm each day at Endless Oceans (Monday to Friday), the Lagoon of Light (Saturday) and the Amazon Flooded Forest (Sunday). Watch the video of our divers feeding the sharks here. Please note: the dive shows taking place on Tuesday and Thursday in the Endless Oceans tank are cleaning only. The animals are fed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Touchpool Sessions

Handle some of our smaller species native to the UK at Dylans Discovery Corner including starfish, velvet swimmer crabs and sea urchins. These sessions take place at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm. Make sure you also try your hand at fossil brushing in this area as well as testing your skills on the interactive magic floor. 

Penguin Feeding

See our keepers hand feed the loveable Gentoo penguins in the Kingdom of Ice at 11.30am and 3.30pm every day. This is accompanied by a talk on the lower level of the enclosure, just through the ice tunnel, by one of our Guides who will explain more about the penguin's feeding and behaviour, as well as threats faced to penguins in the wild. 

With a special interest in fish ecology, Nuno uses his images as a tool for research, conservation and education. His photos have been published in exhibitions, newspapers, magazines and both national and international books. He is the author of the book, Marine Fishes of Portugal and co-author of two books about marine fauna, one of which is currently being finalised (Marine Fishes of São Tomé & Principe, Africa). Nuno works as the Assistant Curator at Oceanário de Lisboa (Portugal) and researcher at MARE IPLeiria.

The gallery is free to view on the 3rd floor of the aquarium. 

Deep Experience

The Deep 1 to 1 Experience is a morning with a difference for those with a love of the marine world.

Get hands on and help The Deep crew with a series of day to day activities as well as seeing behind the scenes. Experience days are ideal for youngsters with a passion for the marine world or those looking at getting into a Marine Biology career, but are also perfect for adults with an interest in aquaria. The Deep Experience is suitable for participants aged 8 and above. International Sawfish Day

Dates:

We have some exciting things planned for International Sawfish Day 2018 here at The Deep.

Get your rostrums at the ready for sawfish themed colouring activities and badge making in Craft Corner. Our catering team will be cooking up some tasty treats in Castaways Café, including some delicious homemade biscuits and the Guides will also be delivering regular sawfish talks throughout the day.

Celebrations will also include the installation of a very special mascot – so keep your eyes peeled, he is not to be missed!

We will have fundraising activities taking place throughout the day, with all monies raised going directly to sawfish conservation.

Venom vs poisons!

October 20, 2018 - November 4, 2018

Was Snow White’s apple venomous or poisonous? Did Dory get bitten or stung? Delve into the lives of toxic creatures at The Deep this October half term (20 October to 4 November) and find out which animals use venom and which use poison.

Join us for the fun-packed interactive presentation at 11am, 1pm and 3pm and discover how our animals use their amazing abilities to survive. 

Don’t forget to head on down to the Learning Centre to make your own sticky slime to take home too for just £1.

Shark Egg Case Hunt

Join us at Spurn Point for our final Egg Case Hunt of the year! Taking place along the East Coast, these free events are being delivered in partnership with the Shark Trust and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in a bid to involve local people in shark conservation.

Ideal for children aged 3 upwards, you can support marine life whilst enjoying a great day out. All participants are asked to wear suitable sturdy footwear. The event is expected to finish by 3pm. All under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

Little Nippers (term time only)

Don’t get crabby, come to little nippers on Tuesday mornings 9:30-11am for our fun-filled discovery and play sessions.

Suitable for children aged 2 and under. Enjoy a sing-a-long and story time in The Deep’s soft play area. Pay admission to The Deep once, and receive a Day Plus Pass which entitles you to visit as often as you like for free. Booking is not required. Simply turn up on the day. 

Adults pay £13.50 for 12 months entry, plus £1 per session for your little nipper!

Tranquil Tuesday

November 6, 2018

Join us on the first Tuesday of each month (TERM TIME ONLY) for Tranquil Tuesdays. From 3pm until closing the lights will be brighter and the audio turned down, creating a tranquil environment for our visitors.

This event is perfect for those who prefer to visit during a quieter and more peaceful environment. Everyone is welcome to attend. Normal admission rates apply and there is no need to book. 

We have a range of aids available to hire free of charge for visitors with access needs including ear defenders, Braille guides, large print guides, MP3 audio guides, international language leaflets, rollators, electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Opening Times

  • Open daily from 10am until 6pm. We are closed on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day
  • Last admission is at 5pm, although we recommended you to arrive no later than 4pm
  • The Deep’s peak times are between 11am – 2pm, should you prefer a quieter environment please visit outside these times.
  • Car parking is available costing £3 for six hours. It can become full during school holidays. Alternative car parks can be found here

Public transport information

Safety Update

The Deep takes the safety and security of its staff and visitors seriously and continue to work with Counter Terrorism Police Officers to review security regimes on a regular basis. Whilst the details of such plans cannot be shared we have in place measures to respond to changes in the threat levels for international terrorism. In light of recent events the security within the building and external spaces has been reviewed.

For the safety and reassurance of visitors, The Deep reserves the right to carry out random bag searches at reception. To avoid delays, please avoid bringing large bags and rucksacks.
