There are always lots of exciting events here at The Deep alongside daily talks, presentations and dive shows. Simply choose your month below to see what's on.

Daily highlights

Join us and enjoy an extensive programme of daily activities.

Dive show

This takes place at at 2pm each day at Endless Oceans (Monday to Friday), the Lagoon of Light (Saturday) and the Amazon Flooded Forest (Sunday). Watch the video of our divers feeding the sharks here. Please note: the dive shows taking place on Tuesday and Thursday in the Endless Oceans tank are cleaning only. The animals are fed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Touchpool Sessions

Handle some of our smaller species native to the UK at Dylans Discovery Corner including starfish, velvet swimmer crabs and sea urchins. These sessions take place at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm. Make sure you also try your hand at fossil brushing in this area as well as testing your skills on the interactive magic floor. 

Penguin Feeding

See our keepers hand feed the loveable Gentoo penguins in the Kingdom of Ice at 11.30am and 3.30pm every day. This is accompanied by a talk on the lower level of the enclosure, just through the ice tunnel, by one of our Guides who will explain more about the penguin's feeding and behaviour, as well as threats faced to penguins in the wild. 

Big Fish Fortnight

January 21, 2019 - February 3, 2019

The Big Fish Campaign is back and The Deep is helping to spread the word about smart choices for home aquariums. Join us across Big Fish Fortnight where our team will dispel the myths and shed light on just how big these tank busters grow!

Get the kids involved with our interactive family presentations across both weekends (26, 27 January & 2 & 3 February) at 11am, 1pm and 3pm or pop along through the week to catch a grown up version of the presentation at 3pm. 

Join us at Craft Corner for catfish badge making and take part in the Big Fish trail for the chance to win a fish-tastic prize!

Deep Experience

The Deep 1 to 1 Experience is a morning with a difference for those with a love of the marine world.

Get hands on and help The Deep crew with a series of day to day activities as well as seeing behind the scenes. Experience days are ideal for youngsters with a passion for the marine world or those looking at getting into a Marine Biology career, but are also perfect for adults with an interest in aquaria. The Deep Experience is suitable for participants aged 8 and above. Local Wildlife Weekend

Meet the people behind the RSPB and discover their work for local wildlife.

Find out about the animals that call the Humber their home and which creatures live along our coastline, exploring the different ways in which you can help protect them. Positioned on the third floor, take part in a spot of wildlife watching alongside experts from the RSPB and see what you can spy through the binoculors. 

Little Nippers (term time only)

Don’t get crabby, come to little nippers on Tuesday mornings 9:30-11am for our fun-filled discovery and play sessions.

Suitable for children aged 2 and under. Enjoy a sing-a-long and story time in The Deep’s soft play area. Pay admission to The Deep once, and receive a Day Plus Pass which entitles you to visit as often as you like for free. Booking is not required. Simply turn up on the day. 

Adults pay standard entry for 12 months entry, plus £1 per session for your little nipper!

Tranquil Tuesday

Dates:
February 5, 2019

Join us on the first Tuesday of each month (TERM TIME ONLY) for Tranquil Tuesdays. From 3pm until closing the lights will be brighter and the audio turned down, creating a tranquil environment for our visitors.

This event is perfect for those who prefer to visit during a quieter and more peaceful environment. Everyone is welcome to attend. Normal admission rates apply and there is no need to book. 

We have a range of aids available to hire free of charge for visitors with access needs including ear defenders, Braille guides, large print guides, MP3 audio guides, international language leaflets, rollators, electric mobility scooters and wheelchairs. Is your child aged between 8-11 with a passion for marine animals? Then join us for a fun-filled experience day where your youngster can help carry out some of The Deep’s daily activities.

Join a group a like-minded kids (two groups of up to 8) for a junior experience day where The Deep crew will lead you through a number of activities including:

  • touring the Cool Seas plant room and Turtle display preparation area
  • cleaning the exhibit acrylic
  • a touchpool session
  • trying on a dive kit and watching the dive show
  • taking part in a slime workshop
  • handling the cockroaches

Valentine's Special

Book now for our Valentine’s weekend on Friday 15 February at Two Rivers Restaurant. Please note, we are now fully booked on Thursday 14th and Saturday 16th February.

Enjoy a sumptuous three course meal, a glass of Rosé Prosecco on arrival, a single red rose and tea/coffee to finish for just £80 per couple. 

Choose to dine in Endless Ocean, close to the sharks, rays and turtles, or in the more intimate Cool Seas area with the jellyfish. A £10 deposit per person is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due on the evening.

Plastic Travels

February 16, 2019 - March 3, 2019

Take the journey from shelf to shore as we explore the voyage of everlasting plastics and impact they have on our oceans.

Solve the clues in the message in a bottle trail, get your face painted at craft corner (choose your favourite animal design from shark, penguin, jellyfish and clownfish) every day from 11am to 4pm. 

We will also be joined by our friends from the RSPB and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. They will be teaching us all about how our native wildlife are being impacted by plastics. Discover ways in which you too can help protect the variety of life along the Humber and across the Yorkshire coast - and beyond!

The RSPB will be with us on the 16th and 17th February, 23rd and 24th February and the 2nd and 3rd March

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's Living Seas team will be with us on the 2nd and 3rd March.

Wedding Open Night

This is a great opportunity to view our iconic venue with our dedicated events team on hand to provide information and advice on what we can offer you for your special day.

Our amazing ceremony and reception spaces will be styled by Style My Venue Hull so you can really get a feel for how your celebration could look.

  • Open daily from 10am until 6pm. We are closed on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day
  • Last admission is at 5pm, although we recommended you to arrive no later than 4pm
  • The Deep’s peak times are between 11am – 2pm, should you prefer a quieter environment please visit outside these times.
  • Car parking is available costing £3 for six hours. It can become full during school holidays. Alternative car parks can be found here

Public transport information

Safety Update

The Deep takes the safety and security of its staff and visitors seriously and continue to work with Counter Terrorism Police Officers to review security regimes on a regular basis. Whilst the details of such plans cannot be shared we have in place measures to respond to changes in the threat levels for international terrorism. In light of recent events the security within the building and external spaces has been reviewed.

For the safety and reassurance of visitors, The Deep reserves the right to carry out random bag searches at reception. To avoid delays, please avoid bringing large bags and rucksacks.
