The Deep are pleased to welcome Side Oven Bakery as the latest Sustainable Palm Oil champion for the Hull & East Yorkshire region.
Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, Carr House Farm is the home of the Side Oven Bakery, where the Sellers family have lived and worked for six generations. A wide range of cereals and soft fruit are grown on the farm which are all processed by hand, using traditional methods to create their range of delicious products.
As an award-winning organic bakery based in East Yorkshire, Side Oven’s commitment to sustainability is echoed in their recent pledge to source only Sustainable Palm Oil (SPO) going forward.
The bakery will continue to conduct regular audits and work alongside suppliers, ensuring that they continue with the highest standards of sustainability. The team proudly recognise that by doing so, they are taking significant steps towards protecting wildlife around the world from the impact of unsustainable agricultural practices.
Palm oil is an incredibly versatile product, which is widely used around the world due to its low cost and efficiency in food, cosmetics, cleaning products and much more. It supplies 35% of the world’s vegetable oil from just 10% of the global land dedicated to oil crops. However, unsustainably produced palm oil is causing harm to the planet's wonderful rainforests, river systems and the species that call them home.
The Deep is committed to supporting a positive shift demand from non-sustainable to Sustainable Palm Oil in the Hull & East Yorkshire region. Continuing the fantastic work of their friends at Chester Zoo, working in partnership with AAK and Murdoch Associates, The Deep are looking to engage with local organisations to become champions or ambassadors for this important community initiative.
